Morning to all

Morning,
I am just not 100% sure today. My cat is in a bad way right now. The vet said his prognosis is bad. He had crystals not too long ago and he has not been the same since. His attitude has just been wrong. I had an appt. last night at 6:30. When I got home he had vomited blood so I brought him right in. This is Jake. He weighs about 13-14 pounds. Now I believe he is about 6-8 pounds.

I wish I had som emoney then I would not worry so much about getting Jake the help he needs. The vet makes so much money already why can't they do some pro bono work? There are people out there who can't afford animal medical why aren't there free vet clinics?

Hi Danielle,

Not venting, just offering support. This is a very difficult time for you and we all appreciate that and many of us have felt the same frustration and feeling of impotence because we can't do anything to help our beloved pets. Just remember to be strong and do what is best for Jake. I had to make a decision for my beloved Simon Says two years ago and it was very hard but there is only so much that our vet could do and it all came down to what was best for Simon. We all care and hope that whatever happens you know the FuzzPack cares for both you and Jake.

You know, Danielle, it is expensive to care for our beloved friends but sometimes even money isn't enough. Please don't feel that money alone could make the difference. It didn't for Simon Says. You could try calling any Universities in your area to see if their veterinary schools do pro bono work? Just remember that Jake knows you love him and will see that whatever course his condition takes that you will do what is best for him.

Hey Danielle! It's not fair! I definately agree there should be some free or discounted vet clinics!! They are our family too and the vets make way too much money! Prime example: My mom's dog, Nikki, was old and her body was failing her. She couldn't see anymore, hear and at the point my mom knew it was time, she couldn't get up to go potty even! So my knew it was time...she couldn't let her suffer anymore. I went w/her to the vet and to be in the room with Nikki, they said it would cost $92 dollars!! To wait in the waiting room would only be about 50 or 60 dollars. They said because if we were in the room they'd have give her the overdose of meds differently versus a shot, or something! When we went to the room and they came in, all they did was give it to her w/a shot! One of the hardest days of my life was watching Nikki take her last breath (and my Danny Boy too)!! They are our furry children! ::sniffle:: Break out the tissues! Some vets are worse than others, but they try to get you to do things that aren't necessary, for the money! Not all of them, I guess...but. Did you let them know you financially don't know how you're going to pay? Jake is too young! ::hugs thru the screen!:: Sorry! I hope I didn't upset you anymore than you already are, but...it's just not fair. We will honestly say a prayer for you & Jake and hope for the best!

Thank everyone. I did talk to the vet about the money and what they can do is accept a check and hold it for two weeks. I just hope I have enough. I get paid next Thursday and will have about 300 dollars. I live with my mom and she will probably be able to help out. A month ago when Jake was there for the 8 days my mom paid for it. 716 dollars. I just have to work on paying her back. We had a sog who lost sight and hearing and could barely walk. We had put her down. That was so hard for the whole family. Then about two months later our cat passed away the day before she was going to be put down. The dog Tyia (tie a) was 17 our cat Friskie was 16. They had good lives. My sister took them to a animal communicater and she said that they enjoyed their lives and were happy to be with us. I haven't thought about that in a while now the tears are coming. Well I called the vet just now and he said Jake was feeling so much better. He is alert and mobile. He said Jake has a brightness in his eyes. Like he is happy or happier than he has been. I am so happy about that. The blood work will be in tomorrow. They think it is his liver. Hopefully something that can be treated. Well we shall find out tomorrow. Thank you so much I can't express how much your thoughts and prayers and love are appreciated.

Danni, I'm so happy to hear he's doing better and that the Vet is optomistic. You know, there are Universities that have a Vet school and will do free work-ups on your pet. That may be an option in the future. Wow, the vet bill was so high last time! You know, the charge so much because they know that there's not much you can do about it. It's not like you can go price shopping, it's specialized medical care. They have you and they capitalize on that fact. SHAMEFUL!
We're thinking about you, fuzz sister!

Poor Jake - hope he keeps getting better, and all the best to you, too.

It might be worth asking the vet if cottage cheese (pureed) might help Jake. The sort of proteins in cottage cheese are easier for the liver to break down than those in meat - but you'd need to get a vet's OK on this, I think. But it's cheap and effective, if the vet OKs it - cheaper than special food, which cost us an arm and a leg, and our cat who had liver failure wouldn't eat. But he liked the cottage cheese.

All the best, again, to you both.

Thanks GS. Thank you everyone for the support (again).

Now I have something to complain about. OK I am in no way shape or form racist but I work with these spanish guys and they play their music so loud. I don't mind except I have no idea what the hell is being said. The boss who is not here any more told everyone to keep the music down. Do they have to? It seems like the answer is NO. When I had my radio I would turn it up (and it would no tbe as loud as theirs is) the lady upstairs would tell me to turn it down. I think it is because they are spanish that they don't have to follow the rules. It could just be maybe the lady doesn't like me. In any case it is soooooo annoying!

Not knowing the layout of the building you work in it is hard to tell if maybe the woman upstairs doesn't even hear their music or what but I know what you are saying when others just don't have consideration for those around them. I know I'm lots older but I've always tried to live by the Golden Rule of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you but lately it seems that most people have the attitude of "my way or else". Sorry you have to put up with that annoyance. Hope things get better for you.

I agree with what Karen said. She's right, when you don't understand what's being said, on some level, your brain is trying to work it out. So it's very distracting. As for the lady upstairs, she may be afraid to say anything to them. Doesn't give her the right to be mean to you.

Danielle- I'm glad to hear that Jake is feeling a lil better today. I know when Taps got sick I just explained to them that I was on a limited budget. He has Kidney Disease, and eats baby food. So lots of kitty loves and prayers for Jake and you.

Danielle, I've been through this with sick kitties myself, so I can sympathize. It's nerve-wracking, I know. My best to you and Jake. I hope you'll get good news from the vet.
